The International Newcomer Academy is a specialized program designed to support multilingual students. The program is housed at Crystal Lake Central. It serves District 155 multilingual students who recently moved to the United States, whose home language is not English, and whose proficiency in English indicates that the student may benefit from comprehensive language and academic support.

Program Details: 

  • Transportation to and from Crystal Lake Central High School
  • Students will participate in the program for at least two years, with the option to graduate from Crystal Lake Central High School. 
  • Participation in sports and co-curricular activities at Crystal Lake Central High School

Helping Your Child Succeed in Their First Year

  • A program that helps students learn English, adjust to U.S. schools, and build academic and life skills. Focus areas include English, core subjects (math, science, etc.), and cultural adjustment. 

    • Set up a daily routine for school and homework.
    • Stay connected through parent meetings and school apps.
    • Encourage English practice at home while continuing your home language.
    • Contact teachers or staff with questions. Interpreters are available.
    • Hours: 7:25 a.m. – 2:50 p.m.
    • Schedule: 9 periods including core academic classes, elective classes, Physical Education, and lunch
    • Transportation: Free bus service is provided to students who reside more than 1.5 miles from school. Bus route information is available on Skyward before the first day of school.
    • Meals: Breakfast and lunch provided (apply for free/reduced meals if needed).
    • Attendance: Regular attendance is important. Call the school to report your student’s absence: 815-455-8507. 
    • Let your child know it’s normal to feel nervous.
    • Reach out ot the school counselor, social worker, or dean for extra support.
    • Students can join sports and clubs at their home schools.
    • Summer experience camps help students meet coaches, teammates, and new friends.
    • Check the school website for how to register for athletics and camps.
