About the High Schools

Community High School District 155 includes four comprehensive high schools (listed chronologically based on date first opened):
  Crystal Lake Central High School
Crystal Lake Central High School began serving the community in its current location in 1924. Prior to this, the school was located in the present-day location of Husmann Elementary, and was known initially as Union School. Opened in 1883, Union School housed all grades from elementary through high school in one building until a separate high school—Crystal Lake High School—was built in 1906. The school housed students from Crystal Lake, Cary, and Fox River Grove until 1961, when Cary-Grove High School was opened. The building later incorporated "Central" into its name when Crystal Lake South was opened in 1978. The Crystal Lake Central sports teams compete as the Tigers in the Fox Division of the Fox Valley Conference. Steve Olson is the current principal.

Cary-Grove High School
Opened in 1961, Cary-Grove High School is attended by students from Cary, Fox River Grove, and Prairie Grove. The school's nearly 1,900 students make it the second largest school in District 155. The Trojans have a proud tradition of excellence in athletics and the performing arts, while maintaining a high level of academic achievement. The school's teams compete in the Valley Division of the Fox Valley Conference. Jay Sargeant has served as principal of Cary-Grove since the 2007-2008 school year.

  Crystal Lake South High School
Serving nearly 2,000 students from Crystal Lake, Lakewood and Lake in the Hills, South High School is the largest school in District 155. The school opened its doors in 1978, with Ken Bruhn as principal. Since opening, only three principals have led the school. This stability has helped the school to establish long-standing traditions and a distinct culture of service and learning. The school was honored in 2006 as one of only ten schools nationwide to receive the National Honor Society's Outstanding Service Award for its Operation Heifer Project—a project that raised $7,000 to purchase livestock for underpriveldged villages throughout the world. The school's athletes compete as the Gators in the Valley Division of the Fox Valley Conference. Marsha Potthoff is the school's principal.

Prairie Ridge High School
Opening its doors in 1997, Prairie Ridge High School now serves more than 1,700 students from Crystal Lake, Prairie Grove, Bull Valley, Ridgefield, and Oakwood Hills. Like its counterparts in the district, Prairie Ridge provides a well-rounded education and produces graduates who are proven leaders in academic, service, and extracurricular acheivement. The school is guided by principal Paul Humpa. Its athletes—the Wolves—compete in the Fox Division of the Fox Valley Conference.
