Amy V. Bland

I am a student for life.  In May 1999, I graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with a B.A. in Teaching of English. In the spring of 2002 I finished a Master's in Curriculum & Instruction from North Central College. What I enjoyed most was completing my action research project on the Profile of an Avid Reader.  In August 2004 I completed a Master's in Library and Information Science from Dominican University.  I recently completed a Type 75 administrative certification program at Concordia University.

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher.  I started my teaching career at Cary-Grove High School in Cary, IL.  In the seven years I was there, I taught freshmen English, sophomore Speech Communication, as well as American literature, Creative Writing, and Rhetorical Analysis of Media electives for upperclassmen.  I now work at Prairie Ridge High School in Crystal Lake as the Library Director. I also sponsor the PR newspaper Wolf Prints.

Professionally, I was a member of the
Illinois Speech & Theatre Association for ten years.   I have also joined Illinois School Library Media Association recently and enjoy learning from colleagues on the listserv.

I love to work on the websites I've created for the high school library and in my personal life.  Take a look at the new library blog, Prairie Ridge Howl, and my personal website Readerspeak.com, including a blog on what's Worth Reading.
