What do I do if I am absent?

A parent must call the school.

If a student is sick, a parent should call the school.  It is preferred that the parent call on the same day as the absence.  However, parents may call the following day as well. 

Students who need to go to the doctor, should have a parent call the school and provide the Dean's Office with a note from the doctor's office.

If I am absent, what are the makeup policies?

For academic courses:

When a student is absent, it is the student's responsibility to find out what was missed from each teacher.  Absences that are considered "excused" provide students the opportunity to make up work.  However, students are not allowed these privileges if they choose to cut a class.

Students that miss a day have two days to make up the missed work.  For example, if a student misses both Monday and Tuesday of a week, then when that student returns on Wednesday, the student should have the missed work completed by the following Monday.  This provides the student with Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday to find out what was missed from the teacher and to complete the missed assignments.

Teachers may have slightly different makeup policies.  Students should discuss these policies with their teacher. 

For physical education courses:

The state of Illinois requires that students pass four years of physical education (PE). 

When a student is absent, the student has one week from the missed date to make up the missed PE class. 

Students who are ill can be excused from PE class by providing the nurse with a doctor's note that explains the situation and the length of time that the student should not participate in PE.  If a student is severely ill, the student can be excused from PE class for an extended length of time.  The information from the doctor's note will be sent to the Guidance Office where the student's counselor will move the student from PE class into a study hall.  The student will be required to write a one page paper for each week that PE class is missed.
