PRAIRIE RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL

What events are held at Prairie Ridge?

In addition to events that are sponsored by athletic events and extracurriculars, Prairie Ridge offers numerous other events during the school year.

Dances

A dance is held at Prairie Ridge approximately once every two months.  Dances include:

  • The Freshmen dance - This dance is held the day of Freshmen orientation for incoming students to get to know each other and meet new people.  This dance is sponsored by Link Crew.
  • Homecoming - Homecoming is a week-long event in the fall.  During the week, students dress up with various themes, leading up to school colors worn on Friday.  A pep assembly is usually held on that Friday along with a parade and block party at the school.  The block party offers students games, music, and entertainment before the football game begins.  The Homecoming dance is held that Saturday night at the school.  All of these activities are sponsored by Student Council.
  • Club Dance - Club Dance is held in the winter around December by Student Council.  All proceeds are donated to charity.
  • Turn-About - The dance for girls to ask the guys is held in the winter around February.  It is hosted by the Junior and Sophomore classes.
  • PRAC - While PRAC is a pageant for seniors to strutt their stuff, the Student Council also hosts a dance following the event.  This is typically held around March.
  • Prom - A junior/senior Prom is held in May at a banquet hall location where dinner and dancing are provided.  Prom is planned by the Junior Class.  Post-Prom events, sponsored by the parent Boosters, are a tradition at Prairie Ridge.  These are held immediately after Prom.

Charity Drives

The Student Council holds a Food and Clothing Drive during the winter.  They also hold drives throughout the year.  One of their biggest efforts was raising $9,000 for the Hurricane Katrina Relief in 2005.  These funds were raised through dance proceeds and student driven money drives.

Theatrical Performances

There are three performances offered by the drama department - a fall play, a musical, and a spring play.  Not only are students invited to participate by working backstage or auditioning for an onstage role, but students are also invited to watch the performance.  All theatric performances are open to the public, as well.
