Percussion Studies

All percussion students should be placed in this class by audition for the first semester.

The Percussion class meets every day during third hour.

Percussion Ensemble

Due to the unique nature of percussion instruments, all percussionists will be enrolled in percussion studies first semester.  During the first quarter, percussion ensemble will focus on marching percussion techniques, as well as percussion ensemble music and some band music. Percussion ensemble students will also work individually on general percussion skills including mallets, snare, timpani, sight-reading, etc. Members of the percussion ensemble will perform with the Marching Band, and with the bands at band concerts. In addition to performing with the bands and Marching Band, the percussion ensemble will perform feature numbers at games and concerts.

During the second semester, some percussion students may be assigned to a band instead of percussion studies.  These will be the most advanced students, who have demonstrated consistent skill in everyday playing and performance evaluations.  The majority of students will stay enrolled in percussion studies second semester, and play with the band(s) during concerts and performances.
