Central Senior's Writing Honored with 2007 Achievement Award in Writing
Alissa Walkner's hands and those of friends and strangers are a window to a person's passions and life. At least, that's the
perspective the Crystal Lake Central student brought forth in her essay "Hands," which she wrote for her sophomore honors English
class. Now two years later, a refined version of that essay—coupled with the ability she showcased in an impromptu essay
session—has led the senior to be honored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) with its 2007 Achievement Award

District Driver's Ed Program Update
District 155 recently applied for a waiver for 27-24.3 of the Illinois School Code in order to provide more driver training to its students
through the use of both in-car and simulator instruction. If granted, the waiver would allow us to supplement 3 hours of in-car, behind-the-wheel
training with 12 hours of simulator training, affording a total of 15 hours of practice per week rather than the code's required 6 hours. This
request was motivated specifically by the notion that more practice will help the district to develop safer drivers. Should the State of Illinois
deny this waiver-request, District 155 is fully prepared to provide the same number of students with drivers education next school year.
Additionally, the school will offer an extra summer school session to accommodate even more drivers than in past years.
