If you are creating a page based on a template, you will not be able to add a background image or color. This information is stored in a locked region of the template. You will only be able to use this feature if you are able to make a new "blank" page.

Background images can add a positive stylistic mark on a page, or can be a distraction. Be careful when choosing to add these images.

To add a background image or color:

1. Click on the Format Menu
2. Select Page Properties ...

The following screen will appear:

3. Click on Appearance in the left pane

The Page Properties will look like this:

4. If you are adding an image, click on the Browse button to navigate to the file. If you are changing the background color, use the color chooser to select your desired color.
5. Click on the OK button.
